Yes, there are thousands of options out there when it comes to a CMS platform for your website. The two most common (and perhaps popular) platforms are intended for marketing professionals — WordPress and HubSpot. But how do you know which one is the best fit for you?

First and foremost, think of your business goals and objectives and ensure that the challenges are addressed head-on. Like any technology that often catches the eyes and fancies for reasons galore, it, however, makes sense to check the specifications thoroughly prior to proceeding. In much the same way, when you choose your preferred CMS, there’s nothing like the options don’t work. The way how one option would help you to integrate with your marketing efforts and sync well with the goals for managing the website and carrying forward your objectives is what you need to secure.

Why CMS?

Basic things first, a CMS helps you to build the pages, blogs, website designs, and accumulate resources so as to manage well. You can publish the content for the world and your business will gather that presence, provided the promotions are done properly! And all this can happen using the right CMS and strategy.

The battle between HubSpot COS vs. WordPress CMS

Are you looking for a content-based website platform? Then these are what you must think of. Taking any of these, for example, “website development San Jose” and coupled with some basic know-how, the content efforts, and marketing modes (think of inbound); your way towards finding the perfect solution is made. After all, when you are getting linked to the world of CMS, finding an appropriate platform for content creation, management and optimization is the way to deriving success.

Why WordPress?

Among the several CMS platforms trending big, there’s no match to WordPress that promises ease of use, simplicity, and hassle-free interface. Most plugins are also so simple that even vendors and online payment solution providers are well aware of how easily they can integrate this platform.

Why HubSpot?

On the other hand, HubSpot ranks big for the simple comfort it offers clients and users the chance to change the outlook as per their requirement and for the desired client. This is not something that every platform would be able to manage but HubSpot takes the award conveniently in this department.

Ease of Use

A WordPress website development company can actually provide you with plenty of themes at their disposal. With support from an agency, you would have zero trouble in developing a professional website, and you leave the coding to the experts. Another option is getting help from an experienced website developer to custom-code the theme and/or plugins.

The open-source CMS platform, WordPress, is robust and it doesn’t limit your creativity. You can find videos on sites like YouTube and the user forums to master the functionality or by adding new features to the website.

Nowadays, you need to be quick when outsourcing website development projects and HubSpot offers the allowance to be so among the CMS platforms. Using the pre-built templates or just by designing yourself, HubSpot also provides wide-ranging marketing tools like marketing automation, analytics, lead management, and more. You can do a lot of things with the add-ons they provide to accomplish your goals.

The basic difference between WordPress and HubSpot is that the latter is all about utilizing the MarkUp Language (HubL) at the time of attracting dynamic content. The former on the other hand takes recourse to common PHP dynamic scripting language and is known to most users. The HubL developed by HubSpot doesn’t really allow for the customization that WordPress does.

Search Engine Optimization

There’s nothing that you would be able to achieve without SEO, at least if you think from the perspective of marketing a business online. Any SEO strategy wouldn’t be meted out success no matter how reputed the website development company is if the tools and plugins aren’t combined together on the respective CMS platform.

Think of yourself as an eCommerce outlet, a small business start-up, or any retail unit with an online presence that needs to accumulate information from the database. You are in dire need of WordPress website development and nothing else. Given its configuration and support rendered to database integration, WordPress is rather easy to work with.

You will definitely gather SEO tools and strong ones, with HubSpot. Why strong? Most plugins available for WordPress wouldn’t offer analysis abilities that HubSpot would do. For example, from scanning the site pages and providing suggestions to improve SEO rankings; HubSpot takes care of everything. An all-inclusive approach. The reality is both would give you these tools to optimize the content and analyze the results. It’s just that they appear as standard ones in HubSpot but WordPress website developers would suggest you purchase plugins (or download for free) and then add to your site.

Cost Factor

Pricing is truly a murky side in terms of comparison. Technically speaking, WordPress is free. For HubSpot, you need to purchase the plugins and hosting. Yes, you can call that a drawback, but not really when you see the pricing packs.

The basic plan would set you back by $200/month added to a one-time onboarding fee of $600

The pro plan would charge you $800/month added to one-time onboarding of $3000

The enterprise plan would charge you about $2400/month and a one-time onboarding fee of $5000

Not to mention that you will most likely spend money on add-ons, depending on your marketing budget and goals. So you will have a monthly retainer + add-ons. Another thing to consider is how much you will be charged for X amount of contacts in their database. Make sure you ask about this because for a lot of companies this is the deal-breaker.

Now for WordPress, the platform stands free. There’s no charging for X amount of contacts in their database. The only charges that apply are for hosting (about $10-$50 every month) and domain name (costs keep varying though). In addition to this, the choice of a few themes may mean that you pay a one-time cost, but for other themes, you can simply pay on a yearly basis. The cost, however, is only meant for theme updates; or you can use the theme as long as you want to.

The pricing goes somewhat like this:

Free: $0/month

Personal: $5/month

Premium: $8/month

Business: $25/month

Ecommerce: $45/month

As a side note: If you decide to outsource your website project to a website development company, make sure they specialize in WordPress. You will most likely pay for a one-time cost for development + ongoing monthly maintenance. These costs vary because it depends on your number of site pages, the complexity of the site, and more.

Bottom-line

While it gets a little too cumbersome to comment on the best choice between WordPress and HubSpot, there’s no doubt that in most ways WordPress stands the undisputed winner. In this regard, it would be important to know that the importance of HubSpot doesn’t fade away. If you need help understanding which platform is best for you and to reach your marketing goals, feel free to send me a message, and I will point you in the right direction. Every marketing department is different. I have sent people to HubSpot because it’s just a better fit for their budget, needs, and goals.
